EMDR is a therapy that utilizes eye movements while processing distressing events. The number of EMDR sessions will be determined by you and your EMDR-trained clinician.
Extensive research has shown that when individuals experience distressing or traumatic events, it interferes and impacts brain processing. EMDR is a therapy designed to assist the brain in reprocessing these events using eye movements. The result of completing EMDR treatment is typically desensitization – one may still recall traumatic events but will find that their trauma symptoms have decreased.
