I work with adults, couples, families, and teens 14+ who are dealing with anxiety, depression, or change they didn’t choose and don’t yet know how to handle. That might be grief, a new diagnosis or a long-term health condition, a career that has ended or shifted, or strain in a marriage or family.
I also work with teens and their parents. My doctoral research explored how adolescence has changed from Gen X to Millennials to Gen Z, in how teens form identity, connect with peers, and handle anxiety in a world shaped by smartphones and social media. Parents and teens often grew up in very different worlds, and I help families bridge that gap.
Before becoming a counselor, I spent more than 25 years in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry, working closely with physicians and the patients they treat for serious health conditions. I have a practical understanding of how illness affects a person’s work, relationships, and sense of self. I’m also glad to work with men, who often carry these pressures quietly, and with anyone adjusting to a health condition.
My approach is collaborative and direct, with a developmental lens. I pay attention to where someone is in life, the generation they grew up in, and how their temperament shapes the way they handle stress. I draw on person-centered counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and family systems, and I adapt to what each person needs. When a health condition is involved, I help clients understand what’s happening so they can make clearer decisions. I want clients to leave sessions with a clearer understanding of their situation and something concrete to work on. I welcome LGBTQ+ clients.
I hold a Doctor of Education from Winona State University and a Master of Arts in Psychology from Houston Christian University, where I am completing my clinical training.
Outside of therapy, I spend most of my time with my family. I help with my children’s activities and spend time with my wife, who is my closest friend. I also watch a lot of history documentaries, which remind me that every generation has faced its own uncertainty and found ways through it.
