The foundation for my work comes from Internal Family Systems, which is about helping you identify different parts of yourself that have been helpful in keeping you safe, as well as parts that were wounded and were pushed away. I also regularly use the Adaptive Internal Relational (AIR) Network Model, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, and Dynamic Attachment Re-patterning experience (DARe).
As a therapist, it is important to me that you leave my office feeling seen and understood. I see my role as helping you make sense of things; like putting pieces of a puzzle together so that you can see the “bigger picture”. We all start using coping mechanisms or survival strategies because they were needed and because they WORKED. The hard part is they may not be working anymore, or they may be causing more chaos in your life, and yet you don’t know how to stop them. That is okay. In therapy, I will help you gain a greater understanding of the strengths that have gotten you to this point in life.
For my background, I received my doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology and have been working as a psychologist for the past 16 years. I work with adults experiencing a variety of mental health concerns, but my specialty areas are trauma, PTSD, attachment concerns, and eating disorders. I welcome LBGTQA+ clients who desire a safe place where they will be accepted and supported.
In my free time I enjoy reading, watching crime documentaries and reality TV, traveling to warm places, and playing with my blind cat Asher.
I know that it takes a lot of courage to work on yourself. I would feel honored if you allowed me to be part of your journey.
