Chinese Medicine is based on the theory that we are energetic bodies and that this energy, called Qi, runs through the body in predictable pathways called meridians. When this energy is out of balance, disease or discomfort occurs. Chinese Medicine uses acupuncture needles to access this energy and correct the imbalance.
When coming for acupuncture, the acupuncturist will take your health history, look at your tongue, and take your pulses to determine what acupuncture points will be used for treatment. The needles are of a very fine gauge and usually slip into the skin with little or no sensation. Once the needles are in place, you rest for 20-30 minutes. Most people comment on the relaxing effects of treatment. Based on your condition, the acupuncturist will discuss a follow-up treatment plan with you.
